DVI-I Adapter fail

I have a gtx 650 and i bought a dvi adapter for my vga monitor and when i got everything ready i turned on the pc and nothing shows up. help?

Can you confirm that it is DVI-I? The DVI-D (digital) connector doesn't include the analog signal need for a VGA monitor.

yeah. it is dvi-d. why do they sell them then and manufactures it?

Does your card have a 2nd DVI port? If so, did you try switching to it? Most Galaxy dual-DVI cards have one DVI-I and one DVI-D.

Hate to say it but I'm not sure what else you can do without switching cards or upgrading to a digital display. DVI-D ports just don't have the extra pins that DVI-I ports use to make DVI to VGA adapters work.

I can confirm that Galaxy's GTX 650 GC has the DVI-I you need. In fact, we include the VGA adapter in the box and use shielded DVI-I ports on our cards which make the analog signal a lot cleaner. Not sure if swapping cards is an option for you at this stage, but I believe a new display would be your only other choice unfortunately.
