My System Specs

Default Do I have a cool running rig on air or what

I have my rig in a ground level TV stand with the back side open, and on the front some cardboard with air holes added.

I have a silverarrow 2x140mm on my i5, I highly recommend it, even with my bad OCing chip that needs 1.31V for 4.3GHz, in P95 max heat mode it keeps under 63C with 1.5 PWM/degree C. In most games it barely get into the low 40s, high 40s in BF3, and idles at ~29-32C.

And now with a powercolor PCS+ 7950 at stock 880/1250, idles at 26-28C with ~20C room temp, in BF3, hitman, sleeping dogs, skyrim, it stays under 59C and averages more like 56C, only 49C in BFBC2 and like 52C in SC2

Now for on air that sounds excellent, I have now plans to go under water with such great temps, but what would they be if I did??????????

Oh and my rig is SUPER quiet, the silverarrow is silent, the XFX pro 750W is silent( once it's warranty was ruined to oil it), the 7950 at those temps is silent, the loudest thing in my rid is the hum of the data storage caviar black HDD, when it powers down, I hear almost nothing at all in a silent room.

Cool or not its all personal preferences. My friend has an antec 900 with stock tri-cool fans on high and he say that thing is quiet. It sounded like a turbine to me. I don't mine running cpu and gpu at 80C +. For a heatsink that HUGE, its good to know it does it job well.

Nice system you got there.

Open rigs usually run pretty cool. It depends on your rooms temperature... my PC was idling at 3 C the other day because it was -10 in my room lol. Left the window open in thunder bay winter.

There is no telling what your temps will be like with water. There are too many variables. CPU block, GPU blocks, pumps, radiator configurations, room temperature, stress level on cpu/gpu's.

If your rig is already quiet and runs fairly cool then why go water? Just feeling the need to tinker and got a bit of an upgrade itch?

yeah 2x140mm on the i5, I'm not joking, I can barely ever hear it, even when it cranked up in the BIOS I hardly heard it, it is QUIET

actually I think BFBC2 stays about 42C, thats cool

No first hand experience with water cooling, but I am thinking that at a minimum you would be looking at more noise. You need enough fan pressure to force air through the rad. I am thinking that while a water cooled system may be quiet it should be more quiet on air. Someone with more experience can chime in on this one.

You do realise how cold -10 is right?

I think you might be confused as to what the temperature is in your room.

Yes I realize how cold -10 is, it was -15 oustide and I left my window open all day and night. I am not confused I know how to read a digital thermometer, no the digital thermometer is not broken. It was pretty cold in my room however not cold enough for me to "die".

When you live in TBay -10 doesn't feel all that cold, I also wasn't hanging around I walked back into my room after leaving the window open and it was that cold.
