But I'm picky, I don't want a ref. card, or a 3 slot card, or a loud card like the single fan XFX, and I'm wary of the sound of the MSI tbh from some reviews, but they do have RMA in Canada, and powercolor sort of scares me, but I worry too much

I don't plan on OCing since I'll CF next year
Powercolor shouldn't scare you. I had one. It's fine. I recommend the 7950 PCS+. You can usually get it for <$280, and it has a fantastic custom heatsink on it.

I'd get a powercolor, just not my 1st or 2nd choice. Their 7950 board looks alright, looks like most others

hey ted,

i've been in the same boat shopping around. what'd you end up with?

im currently torn between a msi gtx 660 ti (CAD $270 after rebate) and a msi 7950 for the same price. both are from NCIX. I've read reviews and it seems that the architecture for the 660 ti competes well, but the 7950 still slightly outperforms. despite that, I've been loyal to Nvidia for a while (and msi), but if the extra gig of VRAM and higher bandwidth is really worth it - i may defect over to ATI!

7950 is a better performer, but it may lose out on other supplemental areas, such as cooling, quietness, power consumption, etc.

if you're going 1440+ res, definitely go with the 7950. at 1080p, the 660 Ti is a great performer and definitely worth it.
