Need upgrade opinion from HD 5850

Good day,

Looking to upgrade my aging 5850, Should I go with a 7000 series card or wait a bit more for the 8000 cards. Check out my specs thanks gang

Depends on your budget, everything in your PC is ready for a high end GPU , I'm more a Nvidia guy so i'd recommend to take a 600 series, 660ti which is x2 better or 670 or 680,depends on your budget. For AMD i don't know, sorry :/ i don't even know the name of their high end cards :P exept the 7970 and 7990.

Of course you can wait for 8000 series but if you want a good card right now, buy a 660 ti on sale , 250$ for double performance than your actual card

I dont see any specs ?

I'd honestly say IF the 8xxx series amd/ati cards are as close as they are, there probly worth the wait then buying a current 7xxx series card to replace a 5850 ....

As myself having apreviously a 5850 & moving to a 7870 I can say the move was worth it .... more so now that there cheaper ... but i'd be looking at at least a 7950 if I was doin so now given the price drops ... heck maybe even a 7970 even ...

If you are still happy with its performance, then wait out...why upgrade if you don't have to. If you are starting to find FPS lacking for your taste, then upgrade. An HD 7950 or GTX 660Ti roughly double the performance of your 5850. If I was you I would hold out until black friday/cyber monday sales or boxing week sales if you don't have the urge to upgrade immediately. Last rumor I heard was for the 8000 series not being released until early next year.

There's a pulldown tab on the right side of the header of each post, if a user has filled out the system specifications section of his/her profile.

Someone needs to do some more up to date benches that include 7950 and even 660 cards. I really like to see some up to date 7950 cf and 7970cf vs sli, the only ones around are from Jan/Feb and that's useless since AMDs drivers suck in the begining

Despite ted's belief that there is amd's video drivers are somehow not good as nvidia's (rolls eyes) ... if you can do it i'd seariously now look at a 7950 with the new 3 game bundle in place ... :thumb:

Now, now they might be getting better.
But believe you me that was not always the case.

Single ATI gpu solutions have always been solid performer and great bang for the buck.

A ati 7950 was on sale at newegg for $250 after MIR. Great price. Or if you must get nvidia, a gtx 670 $350. The 660 ti? Sure if they come out with a 256bit version.
