Geforce GTX 650?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if it's worth it to go with a GTX 650 if I only need it for very light gaming at 1080p and want a card that's very power efficient. I mostly play strategy, hack n slash and MMO's, but this would mostly be aimed at a build used for browsing and office work.

Also, is it possible to SLI the 650 down the road? Is there a connector for it?'

Can not SLI a 650, I would grab a pair of used 560Ti's, they are readily available in forums.

OP clearly does not need that kind of horse power and why are you trying to sell him something besides that's most likely against forum rules.

I would go 7770 as it's faster and the same price.

Look at his post he is not trying to sell him anything, so I am not sure where you got off thinking that.
He is merely stating that for the same price you can drop back a generation and get a very decent kit if you don't mind used.

As for SLI, while there is no connector on them, I know in the past some lower Bandwidth cards didn't need that to link. That will remain for the reviewers to tell us.

From the reviews I've seen, the GTX 650 is weaker than the GTX 550 Ti it "replaces".

Note I wouldn't look too much into that review, since most of the settings they choose makes the game unplayable on the 650...

I'm not sure about your location, but from these early reviews, you may be better off performance / $ wise to get a Radeon 7770 or on-sale GTX 550Ti for your needs. Both are relatively low power cards, barely needing their extra PCI-E connector.
Edit: You can SLI/Crossfire the 550Ti / 7770 but I wouldn't recommend it as they'd both be bottlenecked by memory, bandwidth, or in the case of the AMD, drivers.

This member has a Brand New In Box ASUS GTX550Ti on sale for $100, shipped. I don't think you'll beat a deal like that for such a nice card.

At the end of the day , for Sale you can get the EVGA 550TI FPB for less than the newer 650's. I would opt for that road before investing in a 650, or at least wait till reviews go live at a lot of other sites to see where performance is.
Its a low end card, but if you're on a tight budget there are probably better options out there as other members have pointed out.

No sli on 650. 7770 are faster for the same price. 550 are faster than a 650 as well, but not nearly as energy efficient as the 7770 or 650. From what I have read it seems to be a touch faster than a 7750, but cost the same as a 7770.

Thanks guys, I went with a Gigabyte GTX 650. It's cheap and efficient, so it should suit my needs perfectly.
