(8870 msrp $279)

According to the rumour they're increasing the die size by about 20%.

Sure, they'll have a more powerful chip, but unless they do something to increase efficiency, too (something which the current generation of chips is lacking, compared to Nvidia) the cards will just have to contend with increased power consumption, heat, and noise.

As for me upgrading, I usually buy the generation that takes advantage of a new die shrink. I bought the 5800 series, then the 7900 series, and I'll be waiting for the 9900 series.

Agree 100%, I bought the 7950 a month ago, in 6 months I will add another, and will upgrade again to the 9900 series when I need to.

Not sure if serious, ATI/AMD has released a new GPU series yearly for ages. They will release a part this Dec or next Jan, i'm pretty sure of it.

Their business depends on yearly releases.

Probably can't even if he wanted to.
Though when SKY says that, it is usually to be believed.
