Not the easiest, but if you open up the case and look for the battery on the motherboard, then remove it for 1-2 minutes, it should reset everything.

Of course, make sure you unplug the power cable before opening the case.

Dell system that will void the warranty?

Forgive me if I missed it, is there a HDMI port on the discreet GPU?

Instead of buying a DVI lead why not borrow one off anyone with a computer?

How would that void the warranty? Dell doesn't let you open up your own desktop computer? That seems ludicrous.

Actually CanadaComputers will not let you open your pc unless you void the warranty if you had your pc repaired there. So I could see dell doing something like that as well.

I am quite confused about this thread.

A) are you currently getting any displays to work?
B) What connectors are on the graphics card and what connectors are off the motherboard (HDMI/DVI/etc)?

Hmm the instruction manual for the Dell computer has a nice warning for opening the case (although if there's no "void warranty" tape, no one will notice).

As Dzzope mentioned though, the easiest way out of this is to borrow a DVI to HDMI adaptor, DVI cable, DVI-to-VGA + VGA cable, etc from someone. Either that or bring the computer to your friend/workplace if you know they have the cable you need - that X51 doesn't look like a particularly large computer.
