Another "which card" thread

Yes, anotehr which card thread. A bit different in that they are all the same chipset so it's more I guess a branding/experience question as they're all within a few dollars of each other. (The links are NCIX but that isn't set in stone.)

Go AMD instead.

Kidding :P - Honestly, whatever you can find for cheapest is usually my boat unless you're loyal to a particular brand. Also just overclock the thing yourself, don't waste money having a factory overclock for you (Unless you really want that guarantee)

EVGA usually has a solid warranty, and great customer service. Based on past experiences with their cards, that would be my choice as I am unsure about dealing with Galaxy and PNY. Buy whichever brand you are loyal to, or whoever has the better price/warranty, accesory bundle. Performance will likely be nearly identical.

As I can see these are all cards with referent design. I'd personally rather go for something with better cooling solution. Check MSI GTX 670 PE OC or Asus GTX 670 DirectCU II. Both offer good build quality and are pretty quiet too. I'd go for Asus.

If you don't care about noise, then go for the cheapest that also has longest guarantee.

Just a thought :)

Galaxy rep on the forums and they seem very helpful.. I would probably go for one of those as they seem intent on building their name which means they try go that step further for their customers..

I wouldn't touch the EVGA.. overpriced, bad cooler and from what I've heard their customer service has been lacking of late

That EVGA card has actually the PCB and cooler from a 680, which will make it (theoretically) OC pretty damn well. That would be my choice no doubt.

It may be from the 680 but it's still terrible. Only advantage of it is that it's a blower style for dumping the heat outside the case.

miggs78 September 4, 2012 09:11 AM

Well not that bad really.. they did beef up the cooler from the reference 670 card.. So it's not all that great, but it gets the job done. Like someone else said, EVGA CS is simply awesome, the extra perks make it worthwhile.
However Galaxy has been really making it count lately and their coolers are great too!

I've no particular brand preference. I have ahd PNY cards in design workstations (Quadros) so an somewhat familiar with that brand, but I haven't owned an nVidia card for a personal machine for some years now.

I do prefer the blower despite the higher noise at fuill speed as they dump the hot air where it belongs - outside the case.

But all the other cards are a 670 reference which is much worse than the 680 ref.
