Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to save up for the HD7970, or will the GTX670 do?

Is this Powercolor HD7950 any good? Quiet and cool? It has one fan only. It is priced at $270, no rebate required. I am tempted to buy now and forget about 27" monitor.

Single card.. I would go the 7970.. The price drops have put them to 670 levels and they are better at the high res stuff..

That said if your thinking dual cards.. Even with the value of the AMD's at the moment.. I couldn't advise going x-fire when even sky had problems for the 690 review..

I think Nvidia are going to do a price-drop sooner than later.. but worst case you can pick-up a deal on black Friday if you can hold-out.

So basically I reckon, 7970 whenever you can afford it if only going 1 card or if thinking 2 cards try find a 670 or 2 when prices drop a bit / sales start coming in.. Hopefully both !!

Thanks. This make a lot of sense. I'll see how long I can hold off for the 7970 price drop.

They have already dropped down to $400 in some cases... and as low as $370 with MIR's
Choose a Video Card - PCPartPicker Canada
Apart from sales, I can't see that getting lower for a while..

The Nvidia's are due a price-drop though (unless they want to repeat AMD's mistake by waiting too long)
