MSI GTX 680 Lightning Review Comment Thread

MSI's GTX 680 Lightning is one expensive card. However, $599 buys one of the most overclocker-friendly graphics cards currently available, a quiet cooling solution that performs admirable and a long list of other upgrades over a reference card. But are these features really worthwhile for the average gamer? In this review, we find out.

Awesome review, I've always been partial to Asus products but that looks like a great card. Good cooling, great acoustic profile. Quite possibly the most in-depth GPU review I have come across, good job.

Yeah, as you'll see SKY's standards are set very high indeed - Fantastic review as always. If I was about to buy a GPU, this card would have been it, no doubt.

Thanks for the compliments guys, much appreciated.

As always, excellent and very interesting read.

This review kind of makes me regret buying my GTX 670 DCII TOP. Although the $599 price tag would be rather hard on the wallet.

Nice review, enjoyed it.

I admit being a little biased because I used the 580 lightning as well, but I really feel like the lightning is hands down the best 680 on the market if you're interested in pushing the limits in overclocking. If you consider the other options, none offer what the lightning does for the price - the other option is the classified from EVGA which (from newegg reviews) is getting worse out of the box overclocks and costs 760$ with EV Bot (required for overvoltage).

My 680 lightning gets 1352mhz with no overvoltage and past 1400 with overvoltage so i'm really enjoying it :punk:

Anyone considering this card should now look elsewhere; nVidia has strong armed MSI to cap the voltage to 1.175mV with the next release of AB.

SKYMTL September 16, 2012 12:40 PM

That is absolutely, positively unacceptable.

I remember reading about this... apparently Nvidia is really anal about over volting (beyond said limits) while overclocking the kepler generation and this is the result....

Agreed, back to AMD I go for my next GPU, I don't recall them every doing something like this before, sure, their drivers can suck, but at least they leave it up to me to decide how I want to overclock the GPU.
