Default What should i upgrade. gpu or cpu

Just wondering which i should upgrade first.

currently have an x2 550 that doesnt unlock to quad running at 3.8,

and running a 5770 oc'd to 1.01ghz core and 1450 memory.

i was temped to just get another cheap 5770 and cf but want to avoid driver issues and game incompatibility and also kinda like the 6950.

also thinking of upgrading to an x6 1100 or similar unlocked.

just wondering which would be better to do first, want to avoid bottlenecks.

also please dont suggest switching to intel.

thanks!

-Will

Upgrade your CPU first otherwise you'll be bottlenecked if you get a new GPU.

What resolution are you running? A Phenom II at 3.8GHz is still pretty good, at least for most games. Having said that, I wouldn't shoot any higher than an HD6950/GTX 560 Ti, and I would definitely stay away from Crossfire/SLI.

Upgrade CPU first, you'll notice a large bottleneck if you get a new GPU first.

What games do you play? I'm running 2 6950's in crossfire and have had ZERO issues with any modern games. That said, i'd go with the cpu first then gpu at a later date.

I would say upgrade CPU first. Then grab a 7870or 7950 later.....you can handle any game at that point. Plus AMD has announced price drop across the board on the 7000 series card that takes affect Monday.

This may sound redundant but double check your motherboard first and see if it can even run X6. The 1100T is pretty rare these days and probably have better luck finding a 1055T which I read is a pretty good OC CPU.
