Should I upgrade?

Hi,

I've been off the hardware world since a while. I currently have a GTX570 SLI. I know from what I read that a single 670 or 680 would beat it.

Also, I saw that the ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP would have a 20C~30C lower temps at max load and would consume slightly less power (than a single GTX570). Current maximum usage is D3, SWTOR, Crysis 2 (w/ HD and DX11 updates). All at max graph, my room gets hot really quick with two GTX570.

My question, considering my rig (see specs in profile), would it be a smart move to upgrade my GPU? Would I bottleneck somewhere?

Nope you shouldn't have any issues switching over if you want to do so

if you are upgrading to a single card just because you want more performance, you may want to wait as the gain would be negligible, if any, from your 570s. you may even experience lower performance in some games.

this is only from what i've read as i've been considering the same thing with my 2 6950's. i can't see enough performance gain, if any, to justify the price.

i'm gonna wait for the nvidia 7s or amd 8s.

I agree with wirerogue for the most part. You wouldn't see that huge of a performance gain with the GTX 680 not to mention GTX 670, but if you can get a good price on those GTX 570 I'd say upgrade. I'd upgrade just for the cooler performance and smoother game play (well this is only if you're bothered by micro stutters).

a 570sli is still no slouch by any measure, I went 6950CF because it beats 7950 and I think it mostly beats a 7970 too

If you can cover the cost of the 680 DCII Top then sell em.. If you can't then keep what you have.
performance will be very similar.

How about 2 x GTX 670? I can't imagine a performance increase in a single card compared to what you have...

you have too recent technology to consider that an upgrade. Upgrade is when you have cards that are 2-3 years old, not last year's high end. Usually this kind of upgrade is also very costly.

As said, a 680 will be about the same performance, with the benefit of lower power, heat and noise... selling both cards *should* get you just enough for a 680..

If you can cover the cost of a 680 (or at least 480 - 500 $) the do it.. if not, sit happy.
