2 x GTX580 and my fps drops to 35-40 ?!

Last weekend i upgraded my rig to accomadate 2 x EVGA GTX 580's, as my last mobo(Asus M4A89TD Pro) would not support SLI, so I bought the Asus Crosshair V Formula. So far, so good.
I also use EVGA Precision X primarily because I'm not 'Bill Gates Jr.' when it comes to overclocking etc. I'm a PC Gamer, if I could get it done with a hamster on a treadmill, i would.
My problem is that I set the Frame Rate Target to 70 fps, click 'Enable', click 'Sync', set fan speed to 'Auto', it's seeing both cards, I have the SLI enabled on the Nvidia Control panel so the Precision X is seeing both cards.
Then.... I load up BF3, set the gfx to 'Ultra' ( the single 580 used to handle this fairly well as long as I set the Antialiasing no higher than x2) and w/ the onscreen monitoring on, I see my fps drop to 35-40 sometimes !
I thought 2 cards should EASILY keep me over 60 fps.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hmm. I would turn that Frame Rate target thing off.

What I did with my 2x580's is turned on Adapted VSync via the Nvidia control panel. Anytime FPS is over 60 it turns on sync and caps at 60, anytime it goes lower it would turn off Vsync. I hate the Vsync off tearing so doing this most games would run very smooth.

First, get the latest drivers from nvidia.
Second, monitor the gpu usage of both cores during play and see if SLI is actually working.
My 590 gets 60fps in BF2 at 2560*1440 with all the eye candy cranked.

I have the 580 in my sig and I was running the 296.10 WHQL
Then I upgraded to the latest 301.42 WHQL
I noticed a huge deficit in overall quality in all of my game"s FPS etc,etc.
I ended up going back to the 2 series listed above and all the games are back to the way they were.
I am running all games if possible @ 1080p
Not sure what is going on @ nVIDIA ..... but I think I"ll stick with these for now.

I had heard that some people were having issues with the latest drivers. Oh well, stick with what works. There's beta drivers: 304.79, dunno if you wanna try those.

He has a 120hz monitor so vsync isn't needed.
