I don't think Tahiti is a failure for AMD at all, the cards perform really well nonetheless and pull some great numbers. IMO, the biggest issue is with pricing at the moment.

AMD tried to beat nVidia to the punch of having the fastest single GPU, they did for awhile but now it should focus on doing what it did so well with the 5870/5850 & 6950/6970, price their cards lower than nVidia's equivalents. A $299.99/349.99 7950 would be an excellent deal IMO, so would a $399.99 7970. Are these expectations unrealistic? Right now, yes, but in the near future it should be the main aim for AMD.

yea.. if AMD were smart about it they would have introduced price cuts around Feb-Mar and then again just before the 680 Launched...
Their market share would be sooo much higher than it is now... they got the pricing very wrong.

Bingo. The AMD kit is GOOD kit, just its over priced. AMD wanted to milk it for all its worth and got bitten. IF they do cut prices they could still turn it around...just need to take the NEW market realities into account. :)

Question Lose of business

The question is: Why is it that eveyone can see AMD's pricing as a negative, but AMD? AMD waited too long and literally lost business with the release of the GTX 670.

I went with the Gigabyte Windforce GTX 670 for $390. Aside from the performance, Nvidia's driver development with adaptive Vsync is appealing to me. This is the first time that drivers have ever been a deciding factor for me between ATI and Nvidia. Another deciding factor was upgrading to the BenQ XL2420T, which appears to be the first 120Hz display with good black levels and minimal backlight bleeding (yes!). I'd feel dirty using a GTX 670 on a 60Hz, 1080p display, even though I play BF3.

Lucky! All my micro center had left were the MSI reference OC ones so I had to settle for that(anything is better than my 460 at this point). I heard the windforce edition's full size 680 pcb gives it better OC headroom, did you try to boost it further yet?

BTW, is there going to be a review of the 7970 "GHz Edition"? Silly name for sure, but I'm rather curious whether it'll really be a better card (will it have the same OC headroom percentage?) or just an overclocked version of the current thing.

I haven't received it yet. I'm #29 in line and they're on backorder. A new shipment is due for arrival on the 21st, so hopefully my card is in there. I'm willing to wait, especially considering the quality of the Gigabyte card compared to the other GTX 670s. It was also the cheapest option, so it made the decision that much easier.

Will we be seeing a round-up any time soon for the non reference 670's?

If your working on it or it's planned for the future, can you consider a few of the less popular brands (Zotac, Palit, KFA2 etc)?
Currently living and working in KIEV and my only options are MSI ZOTAC and palit (possibly KFA2 and gainward)

Not sure I've ever seen a KFA2 branded anything this side of the atlantic. The other cards will depend on who sends one to Skymtl..... :)
