I am getting a less then 6 month old 590 in 2 months when my friend upgrades to the new 690. I will be paying $350, but I also did all of his PC building/modding/maintenance for the last 4 years, so I get a deal.

That is exactly what I think when I see people complaining about the price of this. I know right now if I had the money then I would get one of these instead of 2 680's.

Yes it make sense in some ways to pay double the price for a 690 that squeezes two 680's on a single PCB. I'm pretty sure the manufacturing costs are less but this is a very well put together card.

However, I think the 680 is overpriced to begin with by ~$100 such that the 690 should be priced at $800. The 680 isn't massively more powerful (at enthusiast resolutions) than the 580. It is a shame they didn't have a true flagship card to release to replace the 580 at the $500 price point.

But then again why would they? ATI priced its 7970 very high and the 680 beats it for less $. We are now stuck with flagship cards at flagship prices that are not that much more powerful than the 580 at ultra high resolutions. Notwithstanding the G80 to G92, previous inter-generational performance gains were ~50-70%.

Anyway hope ATI tweaks its 7970 to give the 680 a beating for less $. After that the prices may settle a bit lower.

I know you don't have a lot of time to review it but it would be nice to see what difference there is to running on 16x PCIe 2.0 or 3.0.

If this beast benefits a lot by having PCIe 3.0 than its a no buy.

If it is as quiet as Nvidia claims than I will seriously consider buying it as this is the first card that is a worthy upgrade over my 480's.

The tests are done. Whether or not I have the time to tabulate the results and put them into the review isn't certain right now.

I'm on vacation and there's only so much work I'm willing to put into this quick-shot review.
