My System Specs

Default ok. Need an opinion. Either a 7850 or 7870

Ok, I currently have a Sapphire Hd 5850 vid card. I am getting really anxious about the new 7800 series cards. I am sort of leaning on the 7870. Because it has 2 x 6-pin connector vs the 7850 with 1 x 6 pin connector. I am thinking that the 7870 will have more O/C potential. You can view my current specs. I really need some opinion to help me win my wife over.

7870. There's no competition, really. You should be able to OC it so that it performs at stock 7950 levels.

I agree with great_big_abyss, and you can sell your 5850 people are still wanting these cards.
That way the money you sell your 5850 can go towards a 7870 card and will not cost you as much. (that's for your wife)

I voted for the 7870 with the caveat that the 5850 isn't doing what you want anymore. IMO the 7850 is not enough of an upgrade to bother...therefore keep what you have if its good enough or go for the 7870.

I find that Skyrim and BF3 don't play great with the HD 5850 with my new 24' monitor. It drags on the FPS. I have to tone down settings to get it for have decent FPS.

Another vote for the 7870. Especially when you get one with a nice cooling design.

I'll be replacing my 2 XFX 6870 with 2 7870 at the first of next month. Everything i've seen on them makes them look like they'd be the best bang for your buck.

Yes. Same chip, but with four compute units disabled.

7870 for sure. Consider Gigabyte for superior cooling....but not as good warranty.
