Default What should I do to this video card?

I let a person I know borrow my e8400 for a few days because they wanted to see how it performs compared to their e4500. So i gave it to him and he let me borrow his 8800gt. Today, he called me to tell me that the cpu does not work and that the pins are bent. He said I gave it to him like that but I am 100% sure I did not since I just took it out of the box with the black plastic covering the pins and gave it to him. Anyways, since I have his video card, what can I do to it? I want to do something and then be like "that is how you gave it to me". But I don't want to physically damage it since it will be obvious to see. Anything I can do to it that he wont notice? I want to make it look like it just failed.

You're a mean person... just make him pay for a new one. THEN if he doesn't pay.... pop the heatsink off, remove all the thermal compound and put it back on. It'll seem fine in windows but as soon as he starts gaming he'll get an unpleasant surprise!

Change the fanspeed ratios and stuff in the card's BIOS so it overheats quickly. >:)
Also, edit the BIOS so it only sees half or less of it's video ram.
You could also either overclock the snot out of the BIOS(to the point of barely stable) or underclock so it is the same speed as two flies procreating under a pound of peanutbutter.

Lol yea I'm sure, and he wont pay for the chip since he said I gave it to him like that. he probably didn't even know how to install the thing properly. I'm not just going to give him back his card if he will not pay me for the chip.

Actually its an XFX card so he might send it in for warranty..Haha that will make it worse for him since he will have to pay shipping and then find out that they wont fix it!

If pins are bent, the socket pins maybe - but not the CPU pins: no such thing on an E8400 (LGA775). If damage was done, it was to the board, not the chip. Check out the CPU pin contact areas for damage, and try it on your board.

I've tested and played with a lot of parts, CPUs especially and never managed to kill one. I've killed a few PSUs, but never a CPU.

If it really doesn't work, make him reimburse you.

I haven't looked at the cpu after I gave it to him so I can't really say if there is damage, but according to him there is...

Get it back from him 1st before you make any rash decisions.

Try it out on your own rig 1st. Hopefully he is an idiot and there is nothing wrong with it.

As others have mentioned there are no pins to bend, its not an AMD chip.

If it is damaged then and you have proof it was in good order when you gave it to him, request reimbursement. If not well, possesion is 9/10 of the law...

Keep his 8800.

Damaging it could only cause bigger problems. DO not stoop to that level. That is just childish behavior.

Other than that if you lent someone a component that has no knowledge how to install it or how it works you have no one to blame but yourself.
