My System Specs

Default 3x6770 or 2x7770 or 1 6970?

Well we are strapped for cash but my business partner has some extra 6770's and 7770's sapphire kicking around and we are thinking of just selling our 6970 surplus so we dont go bankrupt haha, but my wife still wants to game and game well on her 1 1080p 27" LCD. She just got the M5A99X-EVO board and we were thinking just doing crossfire with the 3 6770's or would it be better to just stick to the 2 7770's and when there's cash flow again custom water cool them?

I have never tried triple Xfire but it might be fun but the last option of the 4 options I guess haha is to just take 2 passive cooled asus 6770's from on of our techs here and trade him 2 sapphire 6770's but is the passive cooled ones any good?

all video cards being equal I'd definitely prefer the lower number of cards in a system. The question is, what games does she play, does it require so much power?

She plays... every game haha she was the original nerd in our house hold she will be playing Starwars old republic, DIII Borderlands 2, every racing game on earth haha and a little Battlefield and call of duty.

So yes she needs some power and she will refuse to over clock haha

Honestly then.. the one 6970 would be my vote. Should be enough power for all of them, though I believe on paper three 6770s would be more powerful.. I don't know how well they scale, and if you got a game that craps out on Xfire, you're pretty scrwed.

If the price is the same for either option then I would go for the 6970 as it's better to have less cards IMO. Personally if money is tight I think keep a business up and running is more important than buying a new video card that your wife can game on. If one of the options is free then I would just go with that.

Is the 7770 a mis-type? I didn't think that they were released yet. As far as the passive cooled cards they will run fine as long as you aren't going to overclock them.

My business partner does not run a computer store anymore but still gets lots of gear we call each other business partners cuz we both sell gear for each other, but he still has connections so he gets tons of free gear. The business I work for is far from Bankrupt me personally am very close though haha, thats why I thought sell the 6970's all 3 that I have as they should sell fast and then use the free 6770/7770's the 2 7770's he has are ES models so I cannot sell them and wouldn't anyways.

But will the 6770's or 7770's be enough and future proofed for about a year haha(far future haha)

I would go for the 7770's then, they should be powerful enough for all the games your wife plays and it will give you the extra cash from the sale of the 6970. Hope this helps and that your financial situation improves. Good luck :)

Go see my post in the rumor mill ...... 7870 will be probly the card best for her/you's for "futureproofing" and its sugested to be hitting retail W1 march @ $299.

Would be curious to see what 2 7770's crossfired would preform though.

If you have them go with the 7770s they should be good for a while anyways.

I would normally say go for the 6970, but since you can't sell the 7770 then my vote is for xfire 7770 and sell off the 6970/6770.
