At the moment I think the Sapphire OC and Gigabyte OC versions have the best coolers for the 7950's. I have the gigabyte version and the temps are at about 53-55C with the fan running at 39% and the GPU pegged at 100%

It surely isn't an optimal solution, that's for sure but 80 isn't all that bad considering thermal throttling is still a good 25 away.

Zotac and Sapphire are both owned by the same parent company.

I see the exact same cooler setup on non-overclocked HIS, Powercolor, MSI, Sapphire, ...

That's the reference design for the 7950 isn't it, or is the reference a blower type?

I thought it was the whole setup, heatsink, blower and shroud.

Yeah I'm just trying to figure out why your temps with the HIS varied so much with mine. I do have a Raven RV01 case, so perhaps this type of fan doesn't perform well sideways. I may opt for an Arctic Cooler or something like it in the future.

No idea. I could have something to do with me testing in a controlled environment rather than within a case where the ambient temperatures can fluctuate much more.

My powercolor hovers around 48C when folding and 51-52C when pegged in a game. That's with the fan at about 30-35% For comparison, my 5830 is at 68C with the fan at 40% while folding.

It could be because the Vapor chamber doesn't like the orientation. It might work more efficiently when positioned in the horizontal versus vertical. I've heard of some VC's actually doing worse in a Raven than a traditional case.
