Default Buy Gigabyte 7970 Windforce for $600 or wait?

I'm looking to buy a card that I'll be able to use for the next 3 years and be able to max everything for the next year. I like the Windforce cooler on Gigabyte's 7970, I can overclock it to the 1125mhz and above if need be.

Should I pull the trigger or wait for Nvidia to respond?

Nvidia still hasn't set a release date for their new cards yet (as far as I know). Who knows when they will be around. That said I am sure there are a lot of people waiting to see what the green team will bring to the table. If you have no reason to buy right now, then why not wait and see. If you need a card now then I say go for it.

There will always be new stuff coming out. That is just the way it is. If you always wait for the next thing. you wouldn't upgrade lol.

Apparently the 7950s can be overclocked to 7970 speeds and cost over $100 less. But that means the 7970 can overclock even more :D

Personally, I'm more interested in the 7800s.

I also think it would be wise to wait for nvidias offerings and hopefully some price drops. Then you can really make a good choice to fit your needs.

for 1920x1080? I don't think a 7970 would show any benefits over a 7950 on a single 1080P display, unless it's 120hz 3D capable.
For 2560x1600, 7970 would be just enough.

Kepler is at minimum 3 months away. That's a long time in the computer world. AMD has put out a great product with Tahiti. I say drop your money on the 7970, or, if you want to save a few bucks, go for the 7950. GTX580 performance with 6950 power consumption levels. Quite impressive.

I ordered this nearly 2 weeks ago from NCIX, still no go and my RMA for the XFX BEDD is going to expire soon, so I'm going to be without a GPU unless NCIX can get me something soon!
