Its not a noise "problem" the style of fan they use is louder, and the have perfered a little more noise over high temps. My older 4870 and 6870 were optimized for temps over noise, in they were almost whisper quiet untill they got to warm, then the fan would spin up to almost full speed, it is very hard on the fan and the ears when this happens :P

XFX makes a really nice dual fan overclocked card, probably one of the best out there right now, it is $ but is also one of the best cooling, very quiet 7970s you can get right now.

I will tell you the reference fan is loud. I'd likely wait for a solution from MSI. Their Twin Frozr heatsinks are awesome.

I can vouch for the XFX 7970 BEDD. It's quiet even under load. If you don't have a case with good airflow then the BEDD may run hotter and therefore the fans would spin up creating noise. However, mine has peaked at 67C and at that temp the fans are still quiet.

What fan speed are you hitting at that temperature?

Mostly the fans are running at 30% (64C) during gaming but sometimes it goes up to 33%.

You must have some amazing case cooling, or you're not taxing the GPU much.
My BEDD definitely requires a lot more fan speed to keep it at those temps.
So much so that I'm RMA'ing it and going with a different brand/model; mind you my fans rattle too, which is the reason why I'm RMA'ing it.

Taxing the GPU pretty seriously I think. Mostly Metro 2033 and Dead Space 2 @ 1920 X 1200 w lots of eye candy. My ambient is pretty low though ~ 20C.

Twin Frozr's are such overrated cards, you're much better of getting a reference card and spending about $70 on an Arctic Accelero Xtreme which is transferable to future gfx cards you might purchase for $4. Works out cheaper and performs better than anything the Frozr can offer
