Exclamation Eyefinity - DP to HDMI ? Help Plz

Hey I was wondering if I purchased something like this,

Newegg.com - PowerColor PCS+ AX6970 2GBD5-PP2DHG Radeon HD 6970 Call of Duty Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Or

Newegg.com - XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Can i support 3 monitors and an Eyefinity setup with this Card, using the HDMI, a DVI to HDMI, and DP to HDMI adapters?

Would I need a DP-to-HDMI Active adapter, or will a passive one work as well?

I don't understand why all the videos I've seen always use DVI x 2 , and DP-to-DVI.
They seem to always connect DVI, why not the HDMI?

Thanks!

I believe you need a active adapter, IIRC the info is in this thread.

Thanks for the reply, found some useful info on that thread.

In addition, would I be able to run a second card - RADEON HD 4870 2GB x2 edition - Card along with the 6970 HD 2GB ?? without Crossfire , or does it not boost any performance without the crossfire enabled?

It won't boost performance, because it won't get used.

There is this card in the same price/performance range but with 4 DVI ports instead of DP:

Newegg.com - Galaxy 57NKH3DH5PXK MDT X4 GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Multi-Display Video Card

I believe the AMD card would still perform better as it has 728MB more of vRAM which is very important at 5670 x 1080 or higher resolutions.

At the moment I do not believe there are any inexpensive active display port to hdmi adapters. I know there are DP to DVI which run about 30$. You could try using that with a DVI to HMDI adapter ontop of that, though don't know how much this will effect the signal quality.
