My System Specs

Default Sapphire 5870

Hello everyone, I'm having heat issues with my 5870. I currently have 6 fans in my case so cooling is not a problem. My 5870 was running at 30c idle and 70-71c load when I first got it. It runs at 41c idle and 86-87c load. I have cleaned card inside out and reapplied some mx2 with made my temps drop by 1c . I ran FURMARK and my temps when all way the to 90+@50% fan. Should I worry fan bearing is failing? I was thinking Of getting an Arctic Cooling VGA cooler but those things are too huge I find. My room temps is between 21-22c. The back of my case gets blazing hot and heats up my room lol. This card still kicks major ass. I can run BF3 at 65fps on high and it runs like butter. I would like to keep the longest I can so I don't want it to burn out hehe

Temps are still technically fine. Back of your case gets blazing hot? Certainly doesn't sound too good. Furmark is an unrealistic amount of stress to place on a card. Also different games stress cards differently. Maybe your internal case temperature has increased for some reason or another. More HDDs? bad CPU cooling?

Nope nothing major changed. I have a fan blowing on SSD and one HDD, 2 top 140mm Scythe Kazu fans, 1 back noctua fan, front/side 120mm Coolermaster fans and Dh-14 noctua cooler on my cpu. I had just ordered and Arctic cooler vga fan when I canceled my order at NCIX. I don' think it's worth the trouble. I'll just buy a Silverstone Air penetrator on for my side panel and that should bring temps down a little more. I heard the VRMs temps on the Arctic Cooler go like 100c+ on that cooler so that scared me lol. I think I was going crazy over temps for nothing lol. Thanks for reply dude.

I was thinking the same at some point and and my idle temps dropped by 3c when I updated to 11.12 drivers yesterday. My idle is now 38c. It seems the stress on battlefield has been reduced at bit also to around 84c.
I only hit 71c on Skyrim with new drivers.

Are you using a reference model or custom card? Generally on Sapphire cards, 50% fan speed is insufficient for a furmark run, from memory I take mine up to 100% during furmark and hit about 80 degrees (considering my overclock and audibility of the fans its not to bad).
You might also want to check whether there is anything in your case obstructing the airflow of the GPU intake/whether your fan profile has been modified/whether your card has been overvolted if you have any overclocking utilities running (or even your bios if it supports gpu overclocking).

Yeah it's reference card. I added a Antec spot cool fan in the back of card to cool gpu and my temps are better now.Driver update also helped at bit. Will also replace crappy Coolermaster fan for side panel cause it's just horrible. Apart from that my airflow is good.
