I haven't heard much about 590's crashing (besides when they were first released Geforce GTX 590 burns @ SweClockers.com - YouTube -lol-) but since then the problem has been rectified. I would only assume a 590 would crash if theres insufficient power/an unstable overclock or immature drivers.

If you keep the drivers up to date for newer game releases (NVIDIA are generally pretty reliable for SLI fixes) maintain a stable overclock and have a decent psu you should be fine.

On a side note, I'd say that its not worth upgrading to a dual gpu card at this time. Considering that the 7 series is rumoured to be a 45% performance increase based on the the 40-28nm process alone, in addition to the GCN architecture on the high end cards, a 590 would just be an excessive expenditure of money for insufficient performance, higher heat emissions, more power usage and microstutter (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...fire,2995.html). Your choice anyway.

6990s have been selling out I checked the prices every week or so since I bought mine but they always come back in stock, newegg.ca usually has them. Stay away from the 590. Crippled overclocking and not enough ram if you want Nvidia go SLI 580's.

Nobody can say for sure, but TSSM has stated that they're all geared for 28nm production so I would be expecting the lower tier 7 series to be coming out early Q1 with the flagship cards lagging behind at late Q1/early Q2 due to the architecture change to GCN and use of XDR2 memory (apparently)

Buying new, I would wait. But if you can find a good deal on a used one, then why not.
