Question 6970 vs 570 vs 580?

Well, I'm looking at a new card to get..
Btw, I'm gonna play on 1920 x 1600 res.

I hear the 6970 is equal to the GTX 570.
I have no idea how HOT they run..
Heard the 6970s always run hot..
Heard the GTX 570 HD 2580mb runs hot..

The GTX 580 will accommodate ALL my needs, but I feel it's "some a tad bit" OVERKILL..

So, my question is.. At these resolutions which will have the highest "Bang for Buck?"

If as I understand you run on 1080p, than with your current CPU get the 570. At your resolution the standard 1280MB version will do. And no, memory size doesn't really affect the temperature of the core.

Edit: Oh sorry I haven't noticed you written your resolution
Looked at the system specs instead.
As rjbarker suggested, a single 580 would be a right choice here.

WOW! Thanks guys! Single GTX 580 it is then, hopefully there's a price drop when the Nvidia 600 series comes out.

Go with either 580 or the 570, avoid the 6970 as AMD has not really done a great job with drivers for their 6xxx series cards.

I disagree, but to each his own.
I know my oc'ed 6950 has rocked any recent game out there at 1920x1200, including BF3 on Ultra.

I agree, my 2 x 6970's Rock although there is some truth to AMD lagging a bit with driver fixes for new Games they do finally get there.

Now Temp wise assuming your case is well ventilated etc.. they all run fairly close. I'm not sure if there really is such a thing as Overkill with GPU's :) so if you can afford it get the GTX 580.

Not the GTX 580... the GTX 580 doesn't understand value/performance... just performance.

Buy a reference 6950 2gb that you can flash to a 6970.

They had 5970s on sale during black friday for 300 as well. If you can find a deal like that leading up to xmas / boxing day, I'd jump on that.

I decided on a MSI 6970 Lightning and ended up being very happy with it so I added a second one. I didn't feel like the 1.5GB of a 580 was enough so I was looking at the 3GB versions and couldn't justify the 50% price increase compared to a 6970. I am very happy, with a single card and 1920x1200 every game I played ran smooth with maxed settings with only a few exceptions (Metro 2033 and Witcher 2 with Uber Sampling) but no single card can run those really, even my crossfired 6970s struggle. I'm now playing everything at 2560x1600 and loving it. I think the 6970 is a great value. I believe the 6950 or the 560ti 448 core is the best bang for buck right now but the 6970 is worth the extra $100 for the most part.
