We here at Diamond do not recommend unlocking a 6950 to 6970. This voids the warranty and in some cases kills the card. You can try to unlock the card but it is at your own risk.

Offical Rep of Diamond?

I am sure there are a lot of people who have questions in regards to Customer service and Support by Diamond.

@DiamondTech
Glad you responded becuase I do have a question.

1. Does unlocking shaders only void the warrenty and is it bad for the card?

I didn't flash the card to 6970 bios because I know about the memory timings, and power differences. But I did unlock the shaders only to 1536 but left everthing stock. This card almost matches the 6970 out of box with the factory OC 840, 1300.

Unlocking the card can cause problems for the card. We have seen some 6950 cards come in that were unlocked and that made the card artifact and overheat. Some of them were fixed by resetting the Bios to a 6950. If you have any questions about our service or support just send me a message. One tip I'll give here for service and support is if you buy a diamond video card register it as soon as possible on our site diamondmm.com under support if you register it with in the first 30 days you get a 5 year warranty on the video card.
