Default Small Video Card?

I have a compact or 'slim' PC that doesn't have much room, currently I have a GIGABYTE Nvidia Geoforce 8400 GS card (took back the gt520 because the heatsync was too big to fit).

The cards (low profile) fit fine, but the HEATSYNCS/FANS are the problem. need to be no more than 1.5 inches thick (the fan or heatsync). Would like to get a better card (fan) if I could, any ideas?

I remember a 460 which was 1 slot. think that may be the most powerful card you'll get in there.. though it is a bit of a hot runner and a slim pc doesn't really lend itself to good cooling.

Most if not all single slot cards should be thin enough (as far as the heatsink goes) it all depends on the space available in length and breath.

your other worry is temps.

I had a 5770 that was 1 slot and cool but I don't thin k you'll get much larger than that without heat issues.

If you already have a low profile bracket on hand, our GT 520 is LP ready and only about 1/2" thick. It would be many times faster than an 8400, and I was able to OC ours by nearly 250Mhz with zero heat increase for a nice little free boost when I tested one.

There are quite a few choices like gt 520/hd 5450 at the lower end of the performance scale. You didn't mention what you want this card for. Is it for gaming? Web browsing on an old computer? What connections do you need on it (HDMI, DVI, Analog)? What resolution your monitor is at? Budget?

A quick look on newegg and I would say this hd 5450 if you just need a cheap graphics card

Newegg.ca - GIGABYTE GV-R545OC-512I Radeon HD 5450 (Cedar) 512MB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

And if you want a bit more powerful card for some light gaming then this hd 6570

Newegg.ca - MSI R6570-MD2GD3/LP Radeon HD 6570 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

Both are single slot thickness, so should fit fine.
Desktop: Arc Midi R2, Z77-D3H, 3570K 1.09v/4.1ghz with Zalman Optima Cooler, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb@1866mhz, XFX R9 280X DD, Bitfenix Fury 750w, WD Black 1TB, Intel 530 120GB
Away from home light Gamer: Acer Aspire 15.6", A8-3500m undervolt and OC to 2Ghz, 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance, Crucial M500 240gb
