My System Specs

Question 9400GT vs. Intel HD Graphics 3000
Hi!
After searching on different forums I came across this site so I decided to post.

I am thinking of Switching from a desktop to a laptop.

My current system specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
ASUS P5KPL-VM Board
nvidia 9400GT 512MB
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
320GB SATA

The Laptop I am thinking of getting is the Dell 15R with following specs:

Core i3 2nd Generation 2.2Ghz
4GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 1.6GB dynamic video memory shared with system memory
500GB SATA
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Now I am really concerned about the graphics. Is the Integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 adapter better then the 9400GT or not?

I don't play games but I watch 720p or 1080p movies. I have a Samsung S23A300B 23" 1080p monitor which I will be using. 9400GT is working perfectly with the monitor and there is no lag while playing movies so will Intel HD Graphics 3000 be better then my current graphics or will they be poor then my current graphics.

Please respond because I am going to purchase the system soon. I am already going out of my budget to get the laptop so I cannot upgrade to one with graphic card.

You shouldn't have any issues watching movies with that setup.
At least not that I can see.

If it's not for gaming the HD2000 and HD3000 can play back 720 or 1080p as long as its the i3 or higher series. Any Pentium or Celeron SB CANNOT do it without an additional graphics card

Agree with others. If its just for watching HD content you'll be fine on the hd3000. Its actually close to the same performance of a 9400GT in gaming as well (though I know you don't game).

So you guys think that I would be fine with integrated graphics. The laptop is not for gaming. I will be watching HD content and I was concerned whether I would have a good experience.

I can play 720p with a 2.2 single core and ati 1100 express laptop.

A few days ago I tested my HP laptop B940cpu(think it has the hd3000) on my brothers 55" 1920x1080 LG tv. It did play 720p mkv videos fine through hdmi with sound, cpu usage was 18-25%. I didn't try full 1080p because we don't have any.
