Well that's essentially what I did with the 6870, and what I'll probably end up doing if anyone puts up a 6970/GTX570 or similar on the BST.

Aside from a "possible" change to the HD7xxx/GTX6xx series depending on how much of a performance gap there is, this will probably be the last video card upgrade for awhile.

If you can get a second 6870 or if you find a good deal on two GTX 570's sell your 6870 and go with those. For the new cards coming out, who knows
when they will be out to play..

I nearly forgot next week is Black Friday/Cyber Monday. While I'll probably still get something cheaper used, if the right deal shows up, then screw waiting.

I would expect that a 6870 will play almost any game at ultra settings at 1920x1080, I know mine does. So for me, the expected game performance boost is next to nothing, therefore upgrading is not worth it. The upgrade would be purely for bragging rights.

Exactly my line of thought, a 6970 isn't that far up performance wise compared to a 6870. I would know, I've used both, and instead of a 6970, I went with xfire 6870 which blows it out of the water that it's not even funny. My reasoning is the same as yours, I can't justify upgrading to a new card with such minimal gains... I would rather wait a bit longer and get a new generation where the performance level is much more pronounced.

I rode that thing for years before I dabbled with ATI/AMD.

I feel dirty now not running SLI.

I know how you feel, I'm back on team green and don't see myself moving from it for a while. You could go with 1 or 2 560 Tis or a single 580, I guess it would depend on how much you want to spend. If you were willing to spend 300$ for a single 6970 (used) you could spend 400$ to get 2 560 Tis or 1 580 (pending availability).

Is it just me, or does it seem there are more used 6xxx cards out there than used GTX5xx cards. I always see "WILL TRADE 6970 FOR GTX570" or something similar, never the opposite.

People are just finding that on some cards or model ranges with AMD that their drivers are rather crappy/unreliable compared to say nVidia's constant rock solid drivers.
