Hi, since I've played Assassin's Creed I I really love that game, but when I played Assassin's Creed II, I realised that I need a new GPU, I've been watching some gameplays with the GTS 250 and it looks smooth with good graphics but a friend told me that ALL AC runs better on ATI gpus. I'm from Argentina in South America and pcs are quite expesive, I need some suggestions on what should I do with this. It's the only problem besides RAM (which I will be upgrading in a few weeks)

Assassin's Creed games are made for consoles like the xbox360 which uses something like an ATI 1950X GPU from the mid-early 2000s and any modern GPU is well above and beyond that.

Any mid-low end modern GPU will run the game no problem regardless of brand.

Something like a used lower-mid range GPU could be had for $40-50 Canadian, I don't know what that would be in your currency but it shouldn't be an absurd expense.

What website are you buying from, and what is your budget?

I actually have an ATI HD 4200 series OnBoard with shaders 3.0, both of them, and 700 mb of vRam but it's really slow, the framerate is below 30 most of the time

actually I buy from a gamer store and my budget is about $500-600 argentinian pesos and I can buy a GTS250 or a ATI HD 5670 both with XFX and etc,

I'm sure you could get a 5670 or 5770 for cheap.

well if your choices are between an gts 250 and an hd 5670 i would take the 5670 since it is a more powerful card and it is directx 11 and the gts 250 is only directx 10.1. and personally the gts 250 is a very meh card nothing is very memorable about it, i had one for a while :blarg:

by all means a budget is a budget, however a newer one say a GTX460(336 shaders 1gb Vram) GTX 550 or 550ti, or even a Radeon 5770 or 6850 might be worth it, a little more expensive, but alot more performance, just do make sure your power supply can handle it.

A GTX460 or Radeon 6850 would probably be overall the best $/performance value, that is unless you can get a more powerfull card for a really good deal, though that might be asking for 2 much :P

Also, a GTS250 1gb is actually overall a faster card then 5670. A GTX260 would be better, however, DX11 is a nice feature ot have, although if the card is limited in its power, then it would be better to not have the DX11 ability and just have a faster overall card.

For cheaper decent cards, Radeon 4870/4890, GTX260 216 shader model, GTX460 any version 460 336 shader 1gb prefered, GTX550Ti or 560 non ti, Radeon 6770 or 6850, some of these you may be able to find some really nce deals on, I would wait untill christmas though as new cards are about to come out, and you may end up with an even better deal as they try to get them off the shelf.

The gts 250 only supports dx10. Cause nvidia said it won't make a difference. :blarg:

If you need more power, I would recommend a nvidia gts 550 or ati 6850.
