I think you'd be better off going with a 580 if it's just a single card setup, seeing as the 580 is the most powerful single gpu card.

Sadly... for BF3, you will need 2 580's to run everything at max 1080p. Kinda sad how you gotta pump 1000 dollars into gpu's if you wanna run to the fullest.

A 6990 will perform better than two GTX 580s in BF3. Crossfire has a near 100% scaling in bf3. Even at high settings all ati cards appear to beat out higher end nvidia cards.

At ultra settings it comes down a little since ati has to tackle msaa. But a single 6970 can handle the game on ultra at 1920x1080. It's cutting it close, so a 6990 will definitely do it. But a 6990 is more for high resolutions.

Post some numbers please, everything I've seen puts a 6990 pretty much at par with 590....we all know 2 x 580's SLi will out do a single 590, OC the 580's and its "no contest".

You certainly wont need 4GB of VRAM for 1080...a single 580 would be fine, just turn off MSAA, leave AF x16.

are you saying the 6970 is cutting it close ? also wouldn't the 6990 ensure frames/sec never dropping below 60 ?

Are you telling me that this card here would not give you over 60FPS all the time playing BF3 6970 2GB
Newegg.ca - XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

^^^ 1080 is not a killer demanding res guys..any single high end GPU should be able to handle BF3 fine by simply turning MSAA down from x4 to x2.

1920 x 1200, 2560x1440/1600 is going to require some more "poop" ;)

A single 6970 will run the game on ultra settings. If you want, a 6990 will get higher fps.

An extra amount is the 6970 will get 44 while the 6990 will get 80 fps.

Mind you I'm talking about 1080p. Even a single gtx 580 will run the game. 1080p isn't a high res, it's basically standard these days and doesn't require the best solution to max out games.

BF3 runs better on any ATI card. A gtx 580 is not better than a 6970 in this game.

OC the 6970s and it's no contest. Don't go oc for oc, go stock for stock and ati wins this round. Gtx 580 is better overall, but for BF3, ati got the benefit.
