Default Concerns around the 590...

Read a lot about issues with the GTX 590s... I'm at the point where I need vid cards for my monster build, but I only have 2 slots avaiable.

My question is simple, are the issues around the 590 simply driver based and resolved, or should I stick to a couple of 580s in SLI and be happy (with some extra money in my pocket).

I ask because I'm reading lots of conflicting reports...

TIA

Dual GTX580's are faster anyhow...

Unless you're buying the ASUS RoG GTX590 which actually uses full-blown GTX580 cores.

590 is memory starved and held back so overclocking won't get you anywhere, makes more sense to go SLI 580's and laugh your ass off as it overpowers just about everything.

It is not memory bottlenecked at all, I would say a 580 is closer to be memory choked, because the 590 is essentially a two under clocked 580s in SLI... So the higher clocked separate 580's will be more bottlenecked my their RAM.

On the OP's question - no, there aren't any specific issues with the 590, apart from it being not a good OCer (actually as almost any other dual GPU).
Performance wise is within a few percent the same as dual 570s, a bit better at higher resolutions.

There should be no driver issues with the 590, as it is the same as two 580SLI. However finding one new is impossible these days.

I would get a pair of SC 570's and be done with it.

The EVGA Classified 590 is in stock right now and comes with some super sweet goodies. I just watched the newegg unboxing video last night. :)

Newegg.ca - EVGA 03G-P3-1596-AR GeForce GTX 590 (Fermi) Classified 3072MB 768-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

2 other 590's are in stock as well as I type this reply.

Liu....for that Monster build I wouldn't go near the 590's, either a pair of EVGA 580 3 GB or a pair of EVGA 580 Classy, also 3 GB ;) I thought that was an SR2 board...?....how come only 2x PCI-E ?

I plan to use the other slots for other hardware... Tri-SLI is also an option, depends if I can get the LSI card to work properly.

I see, I was running Tri Sli 580's for a few months as well, crazy speeds with FPS / Benches, only for high Res set-ups, definitely the 580 3GB would be far better than 590's IMO ! ;)
