I really hope the high end 7900 cards are priced no more than $400.
If the performance increase is what they claim it to be, you'll be looking at nVidia style premium price for a while until kepler comes out on the 79xx series (provided they even launch those first)

this site auto logs me out some quickly, annoying to have to be logging in every 2 minutes

I read from some site like WCCF that the 7900s won't be til Q2 or Q3, the smaller cards maybe out in Q1 though

Buy the card NAO and wrap an empty box under the tree. Think of the 2-3 months of gaming you will miss out on if you don't!

My 5970 is considered "old", but can handle every game I throw at it.
Well, my 5830 is capable of running BF3 at 40-60 fps on med settings. I can put up with that for a couple of monthes. I can also play Civ5 at highest settings. When D3 comes out, it'll be more than enough. It's not like I'm 'missing out' on any gaming if i wait a couple of monthes.

I've decided that I'd rather wait a couple of months, spend a little more money, and have a card that's a little more future proof than one that I could pick up right now.
