GTX 570 1280 MB - worth it?

Found a used GTX 570 for basically 2/3 of the price of a new one (it's only 3 weeks old).
I'm just a little unsure, with 1280MB games like BF3 is gonna suffer or maybe the 570 can't even support it on high/ultra which means you don't need the 2GB?

I'm uncertain cause I don't know if I will be needing more RAM on the GPU or not.
Mostly playing StarCraft 2 and Race games.

Don't know if getting a non-2GB card is worth it or not.

Advice would be really appreciated.

As long as you are running 1200p or below more v ram will not make a difference for you. Also you won't be able to play on ultra with a single 570 in BF3, even a single GTX 580 can't push Ultra with nice frame rates in BF3. A GTX 570 is definately worth it especially at 2/3rds the price (you can find them for $315 online so 2/3rd is inbetween 210-220).

P.S Depending on your current graphics card you might not see a difference in Star Craft 2. This is because it is a CPU heavy game and the CPU almost always bottlenecks the GPU unlike most other games where it is the other way around.

I'm having problem with my GTX 260, getting blackouts, the screen goes black for 2-5 seconds (the driver is crashing) and the coming back.
This is why I'm looking to upgrade.

570 is a great choice as long as you are not gaming at a very high resolution. As mentioned above, SCII is not very GPU dependent. Not sure what a good price on a used 570 is, but that sounds like a good buy.

What resolution do you game at? What is your power supply (make sure its up to the task)?

Actually based on this review, a GTX 570 can run BF3 at 1680 x 1050 at ultra, it won't be perfect, but for the most part, it should be good. I'd even go saying that it can almost play it at 1080p, but 50fps is probably not what you want in FPS.

Generally speaking AMD's card will have more memory earlier on, but it doesn't mean they will play better. Actually still based on the same review, similar GPU will give the advantage to nvidia in BF3.

As it was said in your other thread, getting a new quality PSU should be your #1 concern at the moment. Also, it would possibly be useful to know what your current setup is including your screen resolution.

It's the PNY 570GTX 1280 (do mind, I live in Sweden).
It was bough on 23/10 so it's only like 3 weeks old AND I will get the receipt.
A new one here in Sweden is around 2900 SEK (lets not talk about it, yeah, it's expensive here compared to US). He want to sell it for 2000SEK.
He is also selling a Newton R2 650W for 600 (costs 900 new).
I was thinking 2500 for both.

Right now I'm playing on 1680x1050.
I do have 2 monitors though.
But usually I play on one and use the other one when I'm surfing and stuff.

its a great card, I got mine for 269.99 CAD and it was a great upgrade from an hd4890. Don't know what res you game at but i have my gtx570 run ultra in bf3 at ultra settings 1920x1080 and my absolute lowest framerate I have seen is low 30's other than that its usually 40-60fps in multiplayer
