Default Big performance hit for GTX 570 instead of 580 (SLI)?

Was wondering... about $1000 for SLI 580, about $730 for SLI 570.
Is the performance hit of the 570s instead of those 580s really worth that ~$250?
If its more than 20% or so, I'll consider it. But can anyone tell me if its that much of a difference?

Can't really tell without knowing what resolution you're running at, or what games you'll be playing. (My guess would be BF3 if you're resorting to something that extreme.)

As supa mentioned, it really depends on your resolution. If you're gaming above 1080p then the performance difference may be noticable/significant,however if you're at 1080p or lower there is no real point in the minor performance increase.

Well, BF3 definitely. All the high demand games really. 1920x1200 i'm thinking is the way to go. Is it a sizable jump in performance between the sets at this res?

at 1920x1200 i would suggest a single 580 unless you plan on running 3D vision.

what i was planning on doing was grab another card in the future when i wanted a boost or if it needed it. wondering what was the real difference for that price difference.

I agree, you would be best going to a single 580, and if you want to sli later you can pick up another. The real performance difference of a 570 vs a 580 may not be visually noticeable that much in most games, BF3 "could" be the exception to the rule but I can't speak from experience there.

so in your opinion, would you take the 580 over the extra cash, or vice versa?

This might give you a ruff idea of performance , with BF3 do not know. but with 1920x1200 res I do not think you will see a difference in it.
