Default Should I switch GTX570 for HD6970 or GTX580?

Hi!

I have installed a GTX570 OC in my computer (i5 2500K, 8GB, Intel SSD) and are getting okay fps (avg 65) in for example Battlefield3 (resolution 1920x1200, Settings heigh, no AA, medium effects, Ultra textures).

The store have offered me to switch my card if I like, the GTX580 OC will be 106 EUR and accoring to tests it seeme to give around 6 fps extra but it will offer 1536MB instead of 1280MB if that makes any diffrence?

The 6870 OC cost about 10 EUR more then the GTX570 and have about the same(slightly lower) performance as 570, but slightly better in higher resultions. This card do however got 2 GB.

Is the memmory a dealbreaker?

Is there any reson to switch card, and if so, why?

BestRegards

I would stick with your 570, 65FPS is very good for BF3 at that resolution.. although if you want to run everything on ultra i would suggest getting the 580.

Thanks, but there is only a couple(5-7) of FPS between the 570 and 580? Is this all it take to get Ultra running? And does not the extra memory of the 6970 count?

Stay with the 570, the 6970 is a decent card though AMD really hasn't given it or any of their 6xxx series cards much love with respect to quality drivers.

All the extra video memory will help out is if you play at rather high resolutions (1080p+) as it allows the card to process more information at the same amount of time. If you play at 1080p or lower then the difference won't really be that significant for the card change

Okay it seems like you are agreed about me kepping the GTX570. Thats great!

But is it not true that Battlefield3 and GTA3 demands atleast 1.5 GB VRAM on ultra texture settings? This makes the GTX570(1280MB) inferior and GTX580 on the frontier.

Yes the demands of BF3 are high for Vram, but it will only be a bit of a performance loss have the 570 vs the 580.
If you absolutely want to run the higest frames you can get on a single card get the 580. Otherwise like everyone else has said, keep the 570.
