Maybe they'll start leasing or renting graphics cards for a monthly fee in the future....like they do with tvs, furniture etc etc.

Then you can rent something nice for a monthly fee...just daydreaming sorry....there might be demand for it though...

Yes it is much better. As mentioned earlier the 8600 desktop GPU is for the suck :(
The 3850 is no 8800GT but will run circles around a 8600GT. And like I said it's easily within the $100 budget if you sell your 8600 and put the money towards a 3850. If you can scrounge one or two other $10-$20 items to sell on craigslist (that's what I do) you could even go for the 3870 which hovers just a hair below the 8800GT in performance benchmarks overall, and even beats it in certain games IIRC.

(selling the 8600 for 50 bucks would help...) But the thing is I don't even know if 100 bucks is a possibility. Now if it came down to it and I could get a 9600 for 100 bucks I would jump at that to even though I know its not quite on par with the 8800. To kind fill in a little info on my situation I had an 640 8800 GTS lined up through an amazing guy for 150 bucks and even though it was used I thought it was a good deal. I went out and bought an Antec Earthwatts 500w PSU for the GTS and then things kinda went south. My son got sick so the money I had lined up for the GTS had to go to other things mainly medicine for my son. So the GTS deal got pooched and for a while there I didn't even have a vid card for this HP. Then my GF and my mom got together and got me the 8600 I have now. Now I don't want to sound ungrateful at all but the 8600 is acceptable but I would love an 8800. Just rereading what I wrote there I feel like a @ss but its the way I feel. So yeah if anyone here has any idea on how I to help I would be ubergrateful. Thanks for reading.

I do not know where your located, and if you ever go on this site for pc parts.but theres a guy here selling his 3850 for $115, just so you know

The more time that goes by and the more I look everywhere I can all I can think about is how insanely stupid I was for thinking this was possible. Heck even finding a 9600 for 100 bucks is a delusional dream. Just want to thank everyone here for trying to help me with there awesome suggestions, but yeah my bad for being stupid and delusional.

There's a difference between stupid and hopeful, so don't get yourself down. On a positive note, the 8600GT isn't THAT bad of a card, she can be OC'd quite a bit and can hold out fairly well (managed 30+ fps in Crysis on medium)

Sorry I hope my posts didn't get you down, really I am trying to be helpful :) And you are not stupid for hoping.

I still think you should get a 3850. You will see big improvements.

you know... you could always sell your soul to the devil ;D I wouldnt do it for anything less than a whole rig though. A soul for a vid card might not be such a good deal.

How about a 9600GT for $160 AMIR. Sell your 8600GT for $60 and you're set!

apparently my soul isn't up to par i wanted to sell my soul in highschool for a hand grenade during an insanely dull school assembly. I said the words out loud and everything but nada.... and although selling the 8600 is a good idea my fiance would kill me because during the down time between getting the card and selling the old card she wouldn't be able to check her facebook. but yeah thanks for all the ideas. beleive me the 9600 is VERY appealing to me. just the having no money thing REALLY sucks. To everyone out there that can afford stuff please appreciate how lucky you are...
