What kind of case are you using, do you have any case fans, and are you using the default fan profile?

It is a tad high, for example my GTX 560 ti twin frozr II runs at 30 idle and 55 load... Even without a custom cooler you shoulkdn't be that much hotter than mine.

from the reviews I have read 85-95c seems to be the norm for these cards.

my xfx 6870 sits around 50C idle but I have only seen it up to 60 C after gaming.

Yeah i read that too in some reviews but I just wanted to make sure. i guess they just run significantly hotter than performance cards. Also keep in mind this is with everything set on max on all my games.

the 560 usually doesn't use much heat and on top of that you have the Twin Frozr version which from what i hear that whole line of products run pretty dam cool.

My xfx 6950 use to idle at 50 and game in the high 80's. but a custom cooler and I idle at 33 and game at high 40's low 50's. this is overclocked as well.

your temps are perfectly fine. The corsair case is not very good for air cooling, it just doesnt provide anough airflow (especially with stock fans).
And stop comparing temps of a high perfomance card such as 6970 with lower end models.

Your temperatures are fine then, though I'd recommend following the tutorial in my signature if you want your card to run cooler when idling or at load
