Default GTX 480 vs ref 6950(6970)

Hey i made a thread in the OC.net forum but this might be better suited here. At first i was looking at a 480 for ~230$ but then a member on OC.net forum offered me a 6950 unlocked to a 6970 shaders with a mild OC today for around the same price shipped.

I was wondering which would be a better buy? keep in mind that the card will be going in to a SG07 most likely itx gaming build.
Ill be gaming at 1080p and was just wondering which would be a better buy for that particular size of case(s). Its pretty much the same price for both. The previous owner has had it for 4months and has not registered it with sapphire yet.

A 480 would get very hot in an itx build I would imagine as they can easily hit 90+ C in a well vented case, you would have to make sure it definitely vented out of the case.

A bios moded card is a gamble, however I would think a 6950/70 would run quite a bit cooler in the case.

6950, it'll run cooler and perform somewhat better.

6950/6970 would run cooler normally. I have heard that some of the unlocked 6950 (when unlocked to 6970) can run hotter than standard 6970 (just keep that in mind and I have no idea how that would compare to a 480).

I think the performance would be very close, with a slight advantage to the 6950(6970). The 480 might be too hot of a card for your case, though.

If you can afford it I'd go for a 570.

Any of the cards mentioned above will fit in one of these correct?

NCIX.com - Buy Silverstone Grandia GD06B mATX HTPC Case 1X5.25 3X3.5 Hot-Swap 2X2.5 3X120MM USB 3.0 Fan No PS Black - Silverstone Technology - GD06 - in Canada

I might go for that one over the sg07 maybe.

theres a $100 price diff between the zotac 480 and the zotac 570 though =( is that $100 worth it for the 570?

I don't think it's worth $100 more but like others have mentioned the 480 runs hotter and consumes more power then current gen cards. If a new 570 is too pricey you could wait for someone to post a 570 in the trade section, yesterday someone was selling 2 570's for $280 and $260, they seem to be gone now but if you want to wait maybe someone else will post another one.

So i did some calculations and the 480 comes out to 270 after tax and the 570 comes out to 346 or so . Thats a pretty big diff >_<. But now that i see this picture, the 480 would be rather hot in here compared to the 570 eh?

Seing where his video card is, theres not much room for the 480 to breathe...... I guess i gotta pay the extra $$ for the 570.
