Default Worth waiting

Hi Linus,

I was just hoping to get your opinion on if I should wait for the new radeon 7000 series GPU's to be released early next year. I was originally going to go for a 6970 crossfire setup, with a 2600k, but now I am thinking 1 7970 and an ivy bridge processor may be the better choice.

Thank you for your thoughts,

Thats the thing. You can wait. and wait, and wait. There is always something new coming up. It sounds like Ivy is going to expensive. I am just going to bite the built and upgrade to a i5 2500k from my E8400. I have a 5850 and I think I will get a new 7xxx series card as well. Just have to wait and see on performance. Well, good luck.

Like ern88 said, you can wait and wait and wait and performance will always go up.

IMO the best time to buy something is shortly after the product launch. Don't buy on first day to avoid price gouging, but maybe 2-3 weeks later. Only if you absolutely need a new PC now, buy now. If you can wait, wait for the new GPUs and Ivy because I think you'll have less regrets.

I'm basing this from past releases of Core 2, 8800GTX, and the 5870, and how long they've lasted as high performers.
