In Two Minds: GTX 570 or GTX 580?
I have read so many forum posts here and elsewhere that my head is about to explode! http://img.tomshardware.com/forum/uk...ilies/ouch.gif
I have my new build setup;
Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155)
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Two Module Kit
60Gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD Read 525MB s Write 475MB s
Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB internal Hard Drive SATAII 32MB Cache 7200RPM – OEM
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P Z68 Motherboard
Coolermaster HAF 922 Mid Tower Chassis
Corsair 850w PSU
Samsung Blu-ray Combo Drive
Genuine Windows 7 Home Edition x64
I want to buy a very good GPU and the ones I have come down to is the GTX 570 or the GTX 580.
I have seen benchmarks for both on numerous websites and it seems that on average you get 5 or so more fps with the 580 but the 580 is another £140.00 ($225).
I have seen Crysis 2 with DX 11 and High Res with Ultra Settings play on Youtube on many 1080p videos with the GTX 570 and it's breathtaking beautiful, the colours, shading, particle effects... amazing. Great job Crytek! I come from playing that game on Xbox 360 so when I seen the videos I knew Xbox gamers were given the scrappings at the bottom of the barrel and the game was more expensive lol!!
However I want to be future-proofed somewhat and I know that 5-6 more FPS could make a huge difference once a game is struggling in the 30-40 fps range with all max settings. A game on 36 fps is alot better than a 29-30 fps game.
I will be going SLI 1.5 to 2 years time... so as of now, which is a better buy? Is the 580 just throwing money away? or am I better off getting 570 SLI down the road? Does the 570 have the same graphical capability as the 580 but with less fps?
I really don't know what to do http://img.tomshardware.com/forum/uk...milies/cry.gif
I don't want to waste money for nothing but I will buy 580 if there are good reasons to and I will likely go 580 SLI in the future if need be. This is why I am getting a 850w PSU.

Well the important question is what resolution do you plan on playing your games at?
If you want to sli 580s while overclocking them and the 2500k you'll definitely need a 850W power supply as my own system (i7 940 with 2 580s) could pull more then 900W if i had everything extremely overclocked while running crysis 2 on ultra settings
the difference between the 570 and 580 is somewhat small. depends on the resolution.

now remember they have everything turned on in the game
and the 570 will scale just as well as the 580 for SLI
I won't be overclocking 580's. A single 570 runs Crysis 2 beautifully, so if I went 580 SLI with OC that would be a little overkill lol
why did you start another thread on the same topic :P
Still can't decide which one though. The EVGA 570 superclocked (797 mhz) is the same as the the EVGA 580 superclocked (797mhz)... what the big deal?
You know what? I'm just going to buy the MSI GTX 580 Lightning, I have read this review http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-ge...ning-review/20 and it is factory overclocked by 60mhz (from 772mhz to 832mhz), and apparently "The ease of the 950 MHz overclock is really as simple as increasing the sliders and hit apply" and "Overclocking wise the Lightning will allow to be clocked to roughly 875~900 MHz on the core without voltage tweaking" using AfterBurner. :bananafunky:
This will give me a decent 2-3 years of excellent graphics I think and buy then I will probably buy a new graphics card or go SLI (Probably former).
