I agree with Dan though, a used 6950 or 560 would be perfect for you. Or, if you're set on new, ST's suggestion works too.

Bummer about your MB really, as you could get a dual card solution for under $200. (460's for sale in BST, or new 5770's)

Thanks, I'm doing an inter-forum voting scheme taking opinions from Canada Computers, Guru3D, HardwareCanucks and Overclock.net.

Current results:
5 for AMD Radeon HD 6870
6 for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560.

I'm taking votes until Sunday since I'm waiting for my paycheque coming out next week.

560 and 6870 are pretty much the same performance wise (except the games that play better with one or the other). Power consumption is close, but probably a bit in favour of the 6870. Price is better on 6870. Drivers are (according to others), better on 560. That's pretty much the summary of the 2 cards. Just have to decide what small factors are important to you.
