My System Specs

Everytime someone mentions ATI the HD3850 get's a mention but I have to tell you for $179 the HD2900PRO 256bit still seems like a better deal to me, it only needs a single 8pin connector not the 6+8 and run's up to 10000+ on a 3dMark06 when OC'd with ATItool (I get 9160 simply using the ATI overdrive's conservative overclock). The HD2900PRO may be 256bit but so is the HD3850. The only flaw in my opinion is the stock cooler get's loud when it's OC'd but I'm planning to rectify that with a Thermalright or Artcic Cooling aftermarket cooler. Of course there is still the 512bit version of the HD2900PRO to consider but last time I looked local it was $299 not worth the extra $129 to me.

Edit: I was wrong about the memory, it looks like the HD3850 is 512bit, at least on the sapphire specs. And since there is a heatpipe model it must be better on heat. So I suppose if you have the cash it's a better choice. It does have a PCI-E 2.0 spec though and I was told by ASUS that it wouldn't work with my M2A-VM board, the card is supposed to be backwards compatible to PCI-E 1.1 but I could get ASUS to confirm that my board has that rather than PCI-E 1.0a which isn't compatiple

I think SP2 comes with .NET 1.1. But .NET 2.0 is only 22MB, not 100. But the point is you don't have to download 100+MB of stuff. It's under 20MB if you just download the drivers by themselves and about 60MB for CCC (including .NET). Although still a fair amount, thats quite a bit less than you were saying.
