palit 1 gig 8800 fit my ASUS made IPIBL-LA (Berkeley) mobo?

Ive got a HP premade system (got it cheap with a gift card) but the onboard graphics are lame.

I was wondering if a Palit 1 gig 8800 GT would fit my single slot PCIE mobo? Its an ASUS made IPIBL-LA (Berkeley)...

Now I've been told by some that the fan on the card may get in the way, but a tech (from a local store) told me the only problem would be the actual length of the card... I think I can move some stuff around so length won't be an issue but I ain't so sure bout the width, the cooling fan is awful thick...

Anyone have any cloo?

Should I just stick with an ASUS single slot 512 MB 8800 GT card? I know it fits...

Oh yeah any recommends on a power supply? The HP one is only rated for 300 watts ...

don't get the 1 gig card get the 512mb card cause the 1 gig card is slightly SLOWER than the 512mb card.

Really?

I saw the Palit ratings saying that it was faster on games like Crysis?

You don't think the extra 20.00 dollars is worth it for the cooling?

There is no way you are going to need to use 1gb of vram. Games usually max out at below 512mb unless you are running a very high res like 1920x1200 and over. Belgolas is right about the 1gb being slightly slower than the 512mb. That is because the memory controler doesnt have to work as hard with the lesser amounts of memory. And for the cooling option, the 8800GT is a fairly cool card. Meaning it doesnt generate that much heat, hence why nvidia stuck a single slotter there in the first place. And im not sure about the PSU, I know I would not use a 300watt PSU for a 8800 series card, maby a midrange card, but not an 88. So I would reccomend you upgrade to a beefier psu.

for cooling sure but if you don't over clock it then you might not need the extra cooling. 300 watt might be enough but it is always good to be safe.

No no no no no no no. The 1GB card is senseless since the 256-bit memory bus effectively kills the usefulness of 1GB. The card will never ever get the chance to use more than 512MB of that memory, and it is most certainly timed slower than the 512MB cards memory. The 1GB card is pure marketing hype. Do not get it it is not worth it even for $1 more.

Your power supply is gonna croak under the load and probably kill your whole system too. That crappy 300W unit is probably capable of 200W sustained load for any length of time. Don't waste your time putting a high performance card in a low performance PC. Save your dough and build your own.

That is sort of harsh if he cannot afford to build his own. anyways you can still get a midrange card like the ATI 3850 which should easily run on a 300watt psu.

Thanks for the input!
