Do not get it it is not worth it even for $1 more.
Your power supply is gonna croak under the load and probably kill your whole system too. That crappy 300W unit is probably capable of 200W sustained load for any length of time. Don't waste your time putting a high performance card in a low performance PC. Save your dough and build your own. |
You realize that the power supply can easily be upgraded without replacing the entire computer, right ?
Anyways, onto the card itself, do NOT get the 1 GB card. Yes, it's slower than the standard 512 MB card in most applications, although the difference will likely not be noticable. The major factor why you shouldn't get the 1 GB card is you likely have a 32-bit version of Windows installed on your PC and, if you have 3GB or more RAM installed, you're going to have significantly less than that after installing a 1 GB card due to the limited address space of the 32-bit operating system.
Also, those HP cases are cramped and tight. Odds are a single-slot would be a better choice.
Also, if you have an M-series HP, forget about cards that long. You'll have to settle for a card like the ATI Radeon HD 4670 as cards longer than 8" just aren't going to fit due to the placement of the HDD.
