My System Specs

Default 6950 problems

I cleaned out my pc yesturday, switched coolers on my 6950 to a Gelid icy vision Rev2,put it in and i was not getting any signal on the monitor no matter what i tried.

So i put back on the old cooler and now i get signal and the cards working fine on the desktop but as soon as i put it under load (furmark) the scren goes black (monitor comes up no signal) and the 6950s fan goes 100%.

It wont go back to normal until i restart...and if i stress the card i get the same.

Could it all of a sudden be a PSU problem or the 6950?

i dont have a spare psu powerfull enough to test or another gpu.

Sounds like a heat issue. Have you checked all your chips that make contact to the heatsink to make sure they are clean and have adequate amount of TIM on them?

If it worked fine before you changed the cooler in the first place then I would say either A) its a heat issue (as mentioned above heatsink not properly fastened or incorrect TIM application), or B) you damaged something on the card in the process or doing the heatsink change. Those are the only things I can think of.

I actually replaced my Radeon 6950's cooler with the Icy Vision Rev 2 late last week, but I also ensured I used the upgraded 6900 VRM Kit.
I can say that my 6950 has been running solid and maxes out at about 55C with furmark @ 900/1400 w/the shaders unlocked as well.
Did you put any heatsinks on the VRM's of the 6950? There are two places for the VRMs, one (single VRM) will actually be ok with the provided VRM heatsinks, but the other will not work if you didn't get the upgraded 6900 kit.

Yes, I got it through one of Gelid's resellers in HK.
They put me in direct contact when I asked where I could find one.

Had it within 1 week of sending the Paypal funds.

It works great.
