With the MSI GTX Lightning freshly launched, many were surprised to hear that a brand new Lightning -dubbed the Xtreme Edition- would soon be launching.

Everyone's been waiting for a 3GB GTX 580 so we couldn't wait to get our hands on this new 3GB behemoth and put it through its paces....

Awesome card and even better review!!

New color-changing fans are great. Do you have an actual video of the color changing process other than the gif you posted in review?

Not really because all you'd see is a blow dryer waving back and forth in front of the camera.

Nice review.

The 1.5GB extra memory seems rather pointless. Maybe It could be some more useful with vision-finity? (with 3D?)...

The intent of the 3GB cards is indeed for 3D Surround, where the 1.5gb cards were showing RAM limitations compared to AMDs offerings at extreme resolutions.

MSI's offerings, specifically with the lightning cards has really impressed me.. very tempted to ditch my 6950 for one of these XE cards with the intent to go SLI instead of Crossfire as I initially thought I'd go...

nice. you guys sure the 3 gig versions are pointless. id rather have one of those than a higher clocked 1.5...:)


still, at that price? id rather cf 2 6950's

nice review,btw. love the folding numbers ;)
