Thoughts?

lol...this is more of a shocker than the card in question considering Diamond's reputation (i.e. replying to someone 4 months later after warranty has ended...).

nothing out the ordinary there.

as per above

1-look what the utilities have to say about it.
2-furmark and 3dmark it.
5-enjoy

If you had a choice, would you get this card (no reviews of its form factor) or the bigger one?
I don't know what to do.
It was paid for through paypal right after I won the auction. (the pictures came later) I paid $152+13 shipping. I guess the shorter one is more of a gamble, but less of a headache size-wise. My case would accommodate the 10" card - but just barely - I'd have to move hds and cables.

see if any front end componentry is cooled or not,i.e. there is a heatsink on them or just airflow from the fan? :)

that would be my only guess..

and the engineer on the phone thing,wow,really..wow

I think I'll probably take this one. Maybe it's a collector's item?
But then the other side is saying "they changed this design for a reason - it sucked".
hmmmm
any idea what the LF R97FM code means?

[edit - maybe this card is a 6790? ie - no sale]

I didn't actually talk to any engineers - the customer rep put me on hold while he asked them about it. Wish I could have overheard.

Hello
Someone called us about this card today and this card. This is a Diamond 6870 1Gig card made by us. This is our 2ed model for this card there is the AMD Reference model that is a limited edition, and this model that we custom make. The card will be the same as the AMD Reference model the only thing that is has changed is the cooling fan. Also we don't recommend buying cards on Ebay you don't know if the card has been tampered with and voided there warranty modded to look like something else I can go on and on about the things people have done to cards bought on Ebay.

Thanks for the clarification, Diamondtech. As for the warning, it's always buyer beware anywhere, let alone Ebay.

So it's a reference PCB with custom cooling. It's a legitimate card. Tell the seller to ship it, and good luck!

Hi - it was me who called. Thanks for coming to the forum!
Is this design inferior to the bigger, "box" design?
Did this make into retail channels - I was really confused by the complete lack of images on the web.

mike

edit - still coming out of a haze of confusion - and complete lack of knowledge of pcb ref design stuff.

Is this card the brand new version or is the "box"ie 10" card the newest/best?
Still confused as to how the same chips would be on a card that is 1-1.5(?) inches shorter.

This card is shipping out now, the other design is a limited edition so we have to make our own design. Don't worry this card will function just as well as the longer one. Don't worry about the size of the card if its not tampered with it should run just fine. One thing ask the seller for a copy of the original sales receipt as well from when he bought the card.
