If the driver issues in Xfire are getting a bit too annoying then definitely grab a 580

I had a single 5870 and I'm really happy I bought the 580

Just a solid, fast, cool running powerhouse card

Just bought a second one off a mate, 580's will last a while still as someone already said, DX11 is only slowly being integrated

Enjoy!

Well I guess we'll see once I get my pay cheque ;)

And rjbarker, have you tried with only a single GTX580 on the U2711? Everything still playable on max?

Yes...very tempted...to...press...order...

I found the EVGA GTX580 SC on Newegg for $479.99 ($20 less than NCIX). No free games though, but I don't really want those anyways. Then we toss in a EK full cover block and end up somewhere around the $660 mark after taxes

Haven't tried with less 2x......I think you would have to set some candy down a tad in certain games though.....

I bought a U2711 last week also :)

You will be just fine with the single 580, games like metro you will need to go easy on the AA a little (totally normal and you need to do that even at 1080p to reduce jerkyness in some tunnel areas)

Even with a bit of AA down and the settings still on high games will looks awesome and run well with a single

You know you're gonna buy it ;)

Enjoy!

If i were you I'd go with the 580 over the 6970 as I've not been impressed by the poor driver support and issues the hd6xxx series has been plagued comparing to the relatively well written and reliable drivers that the 5xx series seems to have. I'll probably keep my 560s for a while now (hopefully) as both the performance and great drivers are there for it. I do not miss at all my loud driver issued 6870s.

If you can, see if there is a Twin Frozr design out for the 580 from MSI as those heat sinks are rather phenomenal and to me are the best 'stock' heat sinks you can find for air cooled, not to mention their perform quite well and the fans dont get loud until you're near the 60%+ with tech bench or 80%+ with cases

I like my water cooling

And well to be quite honest, the FT01 has rather poor airflow to keep a GPU cool. The HDD cages basically block all the air coming in from the front and the top fan doesn't really blow down to the GPU area.

Anyhow, I ordered the card this morning. No block yet though as I don't feel like draining my loop... My HD5870 will just kinda sit there for now I guess until I feel like draining it.
