MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Review Comment Thread

MSI's Lightning series of graphics cards has quickly become known as one of the most highest respected product ranges available and they are now ready to carry this branding over to the fastest single GPU card on the planet: the GTX 580. Naturally, expectations are high but will this new GTX 580 Lightning deliver the goods in such a competitive market...

Sexy, sexy, sexy beast. Both GTX 580/HD6970 MSI Lightning.
I've been so temped to replace my 5870 with the GTX580 Lightning... So tempted. :punk:

I love the look of this card a ton.

P.S. If I had the money I'd get 2 of these 580 lightning or 2 Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC cards.

It's a great card (been running it for about 2 weeks now). One issue...ITS WIDE, and my case will not close with it in my 1st PCI slot (is that really a complaint?). But very nice, the tweaking gets downright maniacal after about a week of that.

nice. was curious what would happen in metro if you crancked up ALL the settings. would the numbers change much? :)

Cranking up all the settings in Metro results in a slideshow with most single GPU solutions. Even the HD 6990 and GTX 590 have huge performance issues when going through certain tunnels with lots of NPCs.

why thank you. was curious how the far superior clocks of the lightning would fare :)

edit : will the next single gpu kings be able to tame metro crancked up or we'll still need
a dual gpu solution?

No idea but unless we have a fundamental architectural shift, I would think that any upcoming GPUs would still have issues with Metro 2033 with all details cranked + 4xAA on at 1920 x 1200 and above.

cool. so even with a die shrink an 25% more cuda cores it wont make it.
